The refurbishment was done by professional carpenters and electricians.
The engine is maintained by a specialized "Detroit Diesel" mechanic.
This 1983 MCI-9 originally used as a NJ Transit bus. Detroit Diesel engine + automatic Allison transmission. In 2014 it was transformed into a motor home and amongst other adventures it successfully went to Burning Man 7 times. The bus is entirely self-sufficient (fresh potable water, grey water, refrigerator, ice chests, 110v generator, A/C, storage).
The interior design places the sleeping area in the rear of the bus so the front area can be used for social purposes when driving or when parked. The color scheme and the large windows along the sides of the bus contribute to the open and bright feeling inside the bus. The seating area allows for everyone to comfortably sit facing each other which leads to amazing social connections while still allowing for free movement.
The infrastructure under the bus (fresh potable water, grey water, fuel) was placed on the left (street) side bays while the available free storage is on the right (sidewalk) side bays for easy safe access. The refurbishment bus has been designed for quality of life and personal interaction.
The roof deck is accessible from the emergency hatch (from the rear bunk) and with an external ladder.

The floor is playa colored so that you don't see the playa dust on it.
The tinted windows allow for a perfect all around view. The ceiling is white to provide a perfect surface for the indirect LED dimmable lighting.

The kitchen has double sinks and a new gas griddle.
Note the small garbage shoot on the left counter for disposal of (smelly) perishable waste into trash under the bus.
The 2 coolers can be used for ice and drinks, the propane fridge is the largest available.
Sooooo big, we still had fresh food left over after the burn.
The rear sleeping area, has 4 Full Size long double bunks which can each comfortably sleep 2 tall adults (8 people).

Note the space below the bunk allows for: duffel bags to be slipped out of view, shoes to be slipped under and dust to slip under instead of into the bunk.
Also note that the walls of the bunks are completely insulated for comfortable sleep.

The bus drivers area has been kept vintage to remind us of it's history as a NJ Transit bus.
These buses were built like tanks to survive all weather conditions and to drive forever. This bus is no exception.
Note the coat rack above the drivers seat for use when the bus is parked.
The steel and wood roof deck was built for 3 purposes.
1) for storage (as in the photo)
2) for fun when parked to dance on
3) as an additional sun shield to keep the bus cool (even though the roof of the bus is insulated)
The new white coat of paint on the roof is also to reflect the sun's rays.
Road trips are what make this rig an amazing experience.

This bus is made from high quality stainless steel.
Under the front bumper is a spare emergency tire.

The 6 cylinder diesel engine has been rebuilt as seen in these photos and video.

FAQ:
Can I drive it with a regular drivers license?
Yes, this bus is legally registered as an RV which allows anyone with a regular drivers license to drive it.
Is all the stuff in the bus included?
Yes, it's loaded and ready to go on a road trip.
Shade structure?
Yes, I am also throwing in a 30' x 40' shade structure with 40' x 40' high quality shade material. See playa photos. Note, I have added 10' + 10' since these photos were taken.
Where can I store the bus when I am not using it?
That's a good question. I don't live in the USA, so I store the bus in Reno all year. I rent space on a private property and I am confident you can do the same after buying the bus, otherwise there are other arrangements that I can recommend in Reno too. The rental is reasonable and cheaper than a commercial lot. I have tire shields to protect them from the sun and elements.
Is it difficult to take care of this bus?
No, this bus is a tank. The only parts that need occasional care are the batteries and they have battery tenders to keep them trickle charged. The mechanical parts of the bus are amazingly tough and resiliant. Like every engine, these (Diesel and Generator) need to be started twice a year and the tires rolled twice a year, this can be done by people in Reno. Easy.
Comparisons?
It's close to imposible to find another RV on the market that has sleeping space for 8 adults. Most large RVs are configured with master bedrooms and child sleeping on couches and some over-the-driver sleeping. Check out the fridge in any other RV, they are suitable for only 2 dinners, this huge fridge feeds 10 for 10 days. Look at the heavy dark color schemes in any other RV as well as the limited exterior visibility, this one is totally open. Try moving 10 or more bikes in a regular RV without having then take up space inside your RV, on this one they all fit on the roof leaving the entire inside comfortably livable. This bus was refurbished to maximise comfort inside the bus while traveling and while parked.
Why are you selling it?
I have been to 12 consecutive burns (7 with this bus) and loved them all. I built this bus with all that experience under my belt. I think my Burning Man days are now over and I want to pass this bus on to a new burner family.
